Intro to Scratch: Lesson 2

In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to make a sprite fly when we press the green flag, use a forever loop, change the next costume, and make your sprite wait.

Step 1: Deleting A Sprite

  1. Right click on the cat and select delete 

Step 2: Adding a Sprite

  1. Click on the small creature’s head underneath the stage 
  2. Select the “Flying” folder 
  3. Select the Magic Carpet   and click “OK” at the bottom of the page.

Step 3: Add Another Costume

  1. Click on the “Costumes” Tab in the center of the screen. 
  2. Right click the Magic Carpet in the center of the screen and click “Duplicate” 
  3. Click the flip button  in the top right hand corner

Step 4: Program the Sprite to change costumes

  1. Click on the “Scripts” Tab in the center area.
  2. From the  tab grab the  and drag it to the light gray “Code Table”.
  3. From the  tab grab the   and drag it to the Code Table.
  4. Connect it under the , when you see a white line under the  the  will connect.
  5. From the  grab the  , drag it to the Code Table and place it inside the .
  6. From the  tab grab the  , put it under the   and change the “1” to “0.25”.
  7. Your code will look like this: 
  8. Try it out by clicking the  and your carpet will fly

Step 5: Make it move around the stage

  1. From the  tab grab the  and drag it to the light gray “Code Table”.
  2. From the  tab grab the   and drag it to the Code Table.
  3. From the  tab grab the ifonedgebounce and put it inside the .
  4. From the  tab grab the and put it under the ifonedgebounce.
  5. Your code should look like this: 
  6. Press the  to see your Magic Carpet move around the stage.

Challenge Yourself

Try to make your carpet fly faster across the stage. What would you change to do this?
